Garlic and other allium vegetables cut risk for prostate cancer by 50%!

Your mother was right: garlic and onions are good for you. Okay, maybe not for your breath, but definitely for your prostate.

A landmark study in the latest issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute reports that men who ate more than a third of an ounce (10 grams or 1 clove of garlic) of allium vegetables (onions, garlic, chives, or scallions) per day, reduced their risk of developing prostate cancer by 50% over those men who do not regularly eat these pungent vegetables.

The study, which was conducted in Shanghai, China, looked at the food intake of 238 men. Of the men participating in the study, those with the highest intakes of allium vegetables had a significantly lower risk of prostate cancer when compared to those with the lowest intakes. What’s even more exciting about this study is that these benefits are independent of body size, total calorie intake, and intake of other foods. In other words, regardless of your weight, or the types and amount of other foods eaten, allium vegetables provide protective benefits.

Prostate cancer kills 30,000 men every year. All men need to be concerned with its prevention and treatment. Diet should be considered your first line of defense.

Unfortunately for most, including allium-rich foods in the diet is not an easy task. Americans typically do not eat allium vegetables on a regular basis. The protective properties of garlic, onions, chives, and leeks are usually bypassed in the typical American fast-food diet.

GNLD has known about the power of allium vegetables for many years, as reflected in our exclusive Garlic Allium Complexª. Garlic Allium Complex features extracts and concentrates from a variety of allium vegetables and garlic, onions, chives, and leeks, and assures your daily intake of diverse, beneficial nutrients from the allium “family.”

The enzyme allinase is required for the formation of allicin, the critical sulfur compound responsible for many of garlic’s health benefits. GNLD’s special technology protects allinase from destruction by stomach acid. Two Garlic Allium Complex tablets provide 4.2 mg of active allicin from high-yield garlic extracts Ñ equivalent to the amount found in one clove of fresh garlic.

Garlic Allium Complex includes not only allicin, but also the complete nutrient diversity of the whole garlic / allium family of bioactive compounds. This includes both the water-soluble and oil-soluble substances which exist naturally in allium vegetables and work together in different ways to benefit health.

Each tablet is enteric coated to maximize the product’s stability and absorption, and insures the formation of active allicin in the intestines. As a result, Garlic Allium Complex does not cause repeating or garlic breath!
